What a pretty, youthful name that reminds me of Spring and flowers and sunshine. I would definitely use this and keep the pronunciation as it is, not change it to how the month of May is pronounced.

Mai from Avatar: The last Airbender made me love this name! Although it is funny that one of the meanings for this name is "Genuine affection," as that's kind of the opposite of Mai's character :)

I love this name; it's so beautiful and unusual. There is a character in the anime Yuugiou with this name, and if the name means a golden flower, that explains why she got the name (her hair is bright golden blonde.) :)
