Mahdi

In Islam, 'Mahdi' (same etymology) is also a term used to refer to a leader who will appear and restore peace and justice before the end of the world. A kind of messiah, if you will.

This name was very common in the 80s during Iran-Iraq war ironically in both countries while people were seeking a savior! It is pronounced more like Mahdi in Iran and Mehdi in Iraq/Arabic countries. Nowadays, Mahdi is considered a non-religious name especially among young people in Iran.
