Could simply be related to the word male.

When I was browsing down the 'starts with M' list of names I came across this. I clicked on it because in the description/meaning/etymology where it says "chief or prince" I thought it said "chief of police." Anyway, I kind of like this name. Not really. It reminds me too much of the English words male and mail.
