Madeleine L'Engle used the Maddox in A Swiftly Tilting Planet, so it's not like the name was completely unheard of before 2000.
I named my daughter Maddox in March of 2001. This was before it became trendy when Angelina named her son, but I still love the name. At home she is Maddy but at school she is Maddox and I think her name sets her apart from all the Madisons and Madelines. I don't regret using the name at all, but do find my self explaining I used it before Angelina! Lol.
