St Lucia Day is celebrated in Scandinavian countries on 13th December. It is celebrated by holding a candle and walking around in the dark whilst singing Santa Lucia. In Denmark, and I presume other countries, the tallest girl in the class is picked to be Lucia and she wears a wreath with candles on her head and a white gown whilst the rest of the class, also in white gowns holding a candle, follow her and sing the song.
