This name in Spain was specially popular during the Second Spanish Republic, and was used by Spanish republican parents to reflect their democratic values. By looking at Spanish statistics (see https://www.ine.es/explica/explica_estadymas_widget_nomape.htm), it's interesting to see how the name peaked in the 1930s (during the 2nd Republic) with 203 still-living bearers, plummeted during Francoism and rose again during the democratic transition of Spain.
