Lia means "bearer of good news" in Greek.
Lia in Hawaiian is a name for head lice (ukus). In Samoan it means goddess of the rain forest. My wife (Lia) being from the Pacific islands, much prefers the Samoan meaning over the Hawaiian!
Lia can sometimes mean cow.
In Italy, Lia is also used as a nickname for Rosalia. [noted -ed]
This can also be a nickname for any name ending in -lia: Julia, Amelia, Natalia.
"Lia" could be also a short form of "Liana".
This is the Romanian form of the name Leah. It is also used as a pet name for every possible name ending in Lia. I also heard it as a pet name for Liana.
I've seen Lia as a nickname for Athalia.
Also a nickname for Amelia.
