Growing up I hated my name because most kids don't like to be different, we want to blend in. I then went through a phase where I wanted to utilize my full name thinking it sounded fancier, Lara Nicole. Now I sign things Lara Nicole but just use Lara when introducing myself. Just don't EVER call a Lara a LAW-RAH, at least this one! LEER-RAH is also annoying but I will let it slide since it is sometimes due to an accent. For a 4 letter word that is 50% vowels it seems to be a difficult one to pronounce! I try to help people by asking them how they would say Tara or Clara... Anyway, any Lara I meet is beautiful inside and out and I love my fellow Lara's!
My pre-K teacher once called me lair-ah and almost everyone calls me Laura. I don't think those names are as nice as how your supposed to say it. The right way sounds much more interesting and exotic!

My name is Lara and me and my family pronounce it as La-rah :) I really like my name, even if someone previously said it sounds almost like "lard", which I might add, it does not.
My name is Lara and is pronounced Lair-a. I see the name rather frequently, but rarely pronounced the same. My dad's name is Larry and my mom's fave movie was Dr. Zhivago, which is why they chose it. I used to hate it, but now I love its uniqueness. I get a lot of compliments on it.
My name is Lara, and my family and I pronounce it LAH-RAH. We roll the "R", too. So it is basically pronounced LAH-RRAH.

I think it is pronounced La-ruh as that's how a girl I know pronounces it. But she has an 'h' on the end of hers so I don't know if that makes a difference.
