In Marion Zimmer Bradley's novel "The Mists of Avalon" it is said that king Arthur's cousin is named Lancelet by the Saxons, and that it means "elf arrow".
In a Precious Moments Baby Names book that I recently bought, "Lancelot" is listed as being French, and meaning "Attendant". The ancient spelling is "Launcelot".
