My name is Kiri. My mom named me after the red haired women from the movie The Beast Tamer. And it is pronounced K-eerie. Not Kee-ree. My dad however is strange and pronounces it as Carrie. In addition, I know very few people with the name. I know of a country singer with it but I don't know her full name.
My name is Kiri. I was told of several meanings from my mother. It means little debt in one language and it means tree bark in another. I have always been the only one I have ever known. I also know that the name was chosen for me from a book series called Dragonlance along with my middle name. I am not sure but I do know that I grew up hating it because most couldn't pronounce it and although it was pretty and very unique it was a bother that no one ever got it right. I love my name now, it suits me very well I think.
My parents named me Kiri after one of their friends in Australia. I'm not sure of the correct pronunciation in Maori, but we've always said KEER-ee. I love my name. No one else I know has it. Though I hated it when I was a little girl, I can't think of any other name that would suit me.

Well, actually my parents named me Kiri. I have always wondered where it came from but now I know. Growing up, people have had a hard time pronouncing my name, but I like it because it is unique. I always thought I was the only one with that name but now I see there are others with that name.
My sister is called Kiri after Kiri Janette Te Kanawa, a famous opera singer from New Zealand. I think it's a gorgeous name but few people pronounce it properly unless you tell them.
