I first heard of this name when watching Weird But True as one of the hosts was named Kirby, she fit the name really well and I think this could be a good name.
At this point it's probably impossible to hear this name without thinking of the video game character. I do like the Kirby games, but I can't see it being used these days.
The pink fluff ball from Nintendo. I played one Kirby game on my Game Boy Advance and it was my favorite game when I was a little kid. Although, I never really played or play video games and I'm not much of a gamer. Most people my age, video games is all they care about, but why play a game and waste time doing nothing when you can go out and change the world? (I think playing video games is fun, and I enjoy it. Playing them once in awhile is fun, and really enjoyable. However, if that's all you're doing, you're wasting your life. Unless that's what you want to do with your life, then you can have at it.) As a name, I don't like it for boys or girls.
Kirby the lil' pink puffball... I love it! Ironically for the Nintendo character, it kind of sounds tough and burly. I would actually use this for my son (Although it may lead to allusions to the character. But hey, what can ya do? My name is Mario, so if I named my son Kirby it would start a long generation line of children being named after Nintendo characters, ha ha!).
I think this was the name of a character (male) in a movie, the dumb friend of the main character, and all I remember when I think of it is people saying "Go home Kirby" or "Shut up Kirby".

This is my first name. I'm female. My parents chose it from a character in Dynasty and growing up I never liked having this name. To me it just sounded weird! As I've aged the name has aged with me. I'm now proud I'm called Kirby and not some other name that everyone else seems to share! My personality has always been tomboyish, quirky and unique. I've never been one to follow the crowd and I think I owe that to my name.. quirky name, quirky personality! I love it!
I think Kirby is such a cute name, especially for a girl. I could totally see a girl named Kirby who is more of a tomboy, or who is cute and awkward. I personally imagine someone named Kirby as a girl who is unique and quirky, yet someone you can't help but love.
I knew a girl in high school whose sister's name happened to be Kirby. I was a little surprised at first as I had only heard of it used for the cute, pink character called "Kirby". I don't mind the name; it sounds quite nice. I can't imagine the name "Kirby" being strictly reserved for just one particular gender group really...

I love how quirky this name is, somehow being equal parts cowboy and equal parts video game, it even kinda sounds like the word quirky.
One of our cats is named Kirby. He was named after the popular childrens toy, Furby. I like this name only for a pet (dog/cat). I just can't see it on a person.

I knew an adorable little girl named Kirby. I LOVE this name for a girl or a boy. And I remember the Nintendo character! Also adorable! It's such a different name but it sounds like it could be common- I think people would get used to it pretty quickly if they met someone named Kirby.
I used to go to high school with a girl named Kirsten but we called her Kirby, because of the same starting syllables. She never really cared for the nickname too much.
I like this name for boys only. Kirby isn't a good name for a girl. I would never name a child this, because of the Nintendo character. Kirby sounds nice, though.

Please do not use this name for anybody. On a dog, maybe, but not for a human! This sounds too cutesy and trendy for a given name, for either gender. I cannot envision a President Kirby or a Judge Kirby or some other important figure.
I like the name Kirby a lot for boys, but for some reason I hate it for girls. I also imagine a court jester with this name. But that's a good thing, I guess.
I LOVE this name! However, I do agree with property of Jesus; this name sounds HORRIBLE for girls. Also, it is Scandinavian. It just became so popular in England most people believe it originated there.
