I was taught my name Kelia (Kēē-lēē-ə) is Gaelic, meaning truth, willow, fair, and slender, to name a few. My parents found it watching a western movie (ironically enough), and it was the insignificant role of a newborn needing to be saved from a burning cabin (it was saved). My parents watched till the end to get the spelling from the credits, although they did not remember the name of the movie. No amount of googling has since revealed this movie name to me. I disliked this name until I was about 22 since I found myself caught in 20 minute conversations with people whom I've just met discussing my name. Then I forget theirs. Thanks mom and dad. Now I absolutely love my name and am glad it is still a rare one. Just wish people could pronounce it easier (kēē-lēē-âh). :)
The meaning is "raises" in Lithuanian.
In classical Latin the C's are pronounced like K's, so this name could be an odd version of Celia or just influenced by it.
I think it's a version of Celia.
If it were a feminine form of Kelly, then it should mean "war", "strife", or "bright-headed", depending on the source. It seems too insubstantial to me, like a manufactured name.
It is an Irish name, and can be pronounced Kee-lee-uh (like the name Keelia) or Kee-luh. It can mean "she who sings a happy song" or "pretty girl".
