My name is Jolene. I hate it, always have. And my middle name, Dawn, is awful and it rhymes with my married last name in a weird way. I am seriously considering changing my name, now in my late 30’s. I know it will be a hassle, but, might just be worth it. I am sung to ALL the time. It’s annoying and not cute.
Jolene is a very beautiful name! I won't say that I'd name my daughter this but I'd seriously consider it as a middle name! Either way it is lovely. I bet all anyone can think of when they hear this name is Dolly Parton's song, but I think that makes the name even cooler.

I think Jolie would be an awesome nickname for this name, however I'd rather it as a middle name rather than a first name.
All I can think of is Dolly's song. I would absolutely hate being stuck with this name!

Jolene will be the name of a very very VERY famous figure in the upcoming future, probably will be the most known and loved person in the universe alongside the likes of none other than Jesus himself! I'm dead serious. She is the woman of Song of Solomon, the warrior bride, she is wisdom, she is loved by all, the one that conquers, she is also kind, loving and meek, she cares and fights for those she loves, she also never gives up. Watch this space;-) and don't forget this name. All in all I love this name and it is beautiful. To all the Jolene’s out there...you're stunning! And be proud of your name.

It is so adorable *squeals*. I love "country" names. And there's the Dolly Parton song which is totally catchy.
My name is Jolene as well. Haha I’ve had the same song sung to me as you could guess like most people here and I’ve had a hard time growing up with it but I appreciate it so much more now and I love it because it’s unique and made me who I am. I’m proud of it. I wouldn’t of thought there were many Jolene’s out there.
I personally think Jolene is a very beautiful name and it sounds very feminine with the -ene suffix. Perfect as a middle name for a girly girl or tomboy who has a boy’s name as her first name. I don’t think this name deserves hate ever. I don’t find it trashy at all! It’s unique and elegant for a girl!

Jolene-Jolene Joleeeeeeeeene that what comes to mind.
I must say that I have never cared for this name. It just never peaked my interest and plus the song "Jolene" sung by ANY artist is a song that I just despise despite the praise it has garnered. It's hard to think of the name without that song coming into mind.

My name is also Jolene, I have a very determined and gutsy personality. I always wondered about my name, because everywhere I go people will sing and it always made me feel funny, but when I finally heard and understood what the meaning is behind the lyrics of the song it made me think and ask a lot of questions. Firstly, I thought what was my father thinking when he gave me that name! It actually makes me feel like this lady who always gets what she wants, even if it doesn't belong to me, but really that's not me at all, so that song puts me a bit off, but now I understand a bit and I just smile it off and it doesen't bother me at ALL... I am so proud of my name and wouldn't change it for anything.
I'm British and my name is Joleen. I like my name and once you get used to people bursting out the lyrics to you every 25 seconds, you appreciate that it can be an ice breaker. I am not a redneck, nor do I steal other people's men, I know about 4 other Joleen's and they all have good jobs (make of that what you will).
My Name Is Jolene. I love my name and I remember when I was litle I would hear the song by Dolly Parton and run and tell my mom "My song's on" And she (my mom) would look at me and smile and say "yes Honey" Personally I believe our name is a form Of Joesph. But I would not change my name for the life of me and yes, everyone I meet sings the song by Dolly to me and I love it! It's the name my parents gave me and I love them and my name.
I can't help but think of the catchy song Jolene by Dolly Parton whenever I hear this name BUT I do I love the name Jolene! It's cute, gorgeous, sweet & pretty.

Jolene is also my name. I find this all very interesting to say the least. I'm a DJ and someone gave me the stage name Jojo. But I've always loved my name. It's unique and I always get a smile when I tell someone my name- male or female. I also get the old classic Dolly song sung to me ALOT. I personally think it's a good catchy song but really hate the fact that the name is being bagged and pleaded to not take someone's man. Damn home wrecker. Lol, but I just love the Jolene song done by Ray.. beautiful song. Sad but I'd rather hear that one than the other any day. I know Jolene is too new to be from the Bible but where it originated from (Joseph), that's close enough for me to take the Biblical meaning to heart a bit. And it makes sense. I'm very much just like that. To those of you who don't agree with saying it's Biblical, think of it this way. Joseph is like the great great great grandpa to Jolene. That would be like saying your background is a lie. (LIKE I'm part Scottish, Native French Canadian and Canadian) but I never stepped foot in Scotland so just because I wasn't alive when my great grandparents were that means I don't have a bit of Scottish in me? Wrong! I take pride in my background along with my name :) By the way, sandy blond, blue/green eyes. Oh and I'm sorry to anyone that has come across a mean or nasty Jolene. It's a shame that ruined the name for you. But remember not one person is the same so try not to dwell and hold on to that. The next Jolene you meet could be your Bff, lol.
My name is Jolene. At first I did not like my own name, but now I will never change it. I don't care, it comes off a song (Dolly) and yes I have brown hair, green eyes and believe me, I'm not ugly. I love my name :)

I read a lot of comments that it is a hillbilly or redneck name. I've never heard that before. Everyone has always told me it was a pretty name. (my name is Jolene) people used to sing the Dolly Parton song to me. It used to bug me but not anymore, I rather like it now! ^_^
Well I've never heard of the Dolly Parton song, but I do know a very pretty song by Ray Lamontagne called Jolene. I'm still indifferent on the name though.
I love Dolly Parton, but all I can think of is "man-stealing slut" when I hear this name. Sorry, folks.

"Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jo-leeeeene, I'm beggin' of you please don't take my man..." I'm sorry, but the Dolly Parton song is ALL I can think of. The name is so pretty, and I wish I could hear the name without singing that song in my head, but I can't.
Ahh, Jolene is one of my guilty pleasures. It's very, very pretty, but it's also very modern and most people have the impression that this name is for hicks only. It reminds me of the White Stripes' cover of Dolly Parton's song, as I've never heard the original. I always thought this name was fit for a beautiful but wicked woman with "flaming locks of auburn hair, with ivory skin and eyes of emerald green." It's always seemed "mystical" or magical to me, and it is so, so very pretty.
I cannot hear this name without thinking of Dolly Parton's song! It's a pretty name but not on my 'future daughter's name' list. It sounds like a lady who wears a red business suit with thick rimmed red glasses to match and always has her medium blonde hair in a bun.
My name is Jolene, and I've always thought of it as unique but very plain, almost even dismissable. From what I have gathered, it means "he/the Lord will increase;" however, someone else commented saying it meant "she will increase," and women with this name strive for their best until they reach that goal. That is so entirely me. I'm a senior in high school and have always killed myself to reach a sort or perfection. I also believe that I like it spelled better as "Joleen." To me, it looks more feminine. Neither are very fun to write. They're kind of dull.

I knew someone once with this name and she wasn't a very nice person at all, kind of turned me off this name.

I have come to find that this name means God shall add and she who shall increase. I have heard from friends who believe this means that a person who has this name will strive for their best until they finally reach their goal. I believe it means the person will see the good in things and through it all still strive to better herself as a person until she has reached her best, probably because that's what I try to do. Still, I guess we will all have our own impression of everything because no two people think exactly alike all of the time. Thank you for taking the time to read my thoughts.
