I also thought this name was pronounced JAYM when I first encountered it. Years later I found out it's supposed to be a kreatyv spylyng of Jamie. What is with modern parents and these silly non-intuitive spellings? Do they think that a simple name like Jamie is so hard to pronounce that they have to use what they consider a phonetic spelling?
This looks like it should be pronounced ''JAYM'' instead. I mean, that is how the logic of English spelling and pronunciation goes. You don't pronounce the word 'have' as ''HA-vee'' either, and you don't pronounce 'love' as ''LU-vee'', so why would this name be any different? It's supposed to be an English name, after all. If a name starts with the ''JAY'' sound, it sounds either masculine or ugly on females, and this one sounds like a boyish nickname for a young guy named James.
