This is one of those vintage, old fashioned names that is less grandpa-ish and more edgy. I think a guy with this name would be very cool, probably an artist of some kind.
Personally, I love names that end in "is" I also love names that start with J. But sadly, too many people believe names like this are only for African-Americans. While I wouldn't name my son this, I still do love this name.
Ugh. This name is horrible. Luckily it is super rare, since most people recognize how ugly it is.

As an individual named Jarvis, I object. This name is definitely my favorite. You might think I'm biased but I swear I'm not, and my username might contain Michael in it but my real first name is Jarvis. Also, I take offense to those who said this name is deplorable.
My impression of this name is a really cool outgoing kid, who grows up to be likable and self-assured. Seems a cool name which can potentially shoot up in popularity a few years down the road, and since the hipsters are discovering this name now before it gets cool, I think Jarvis has a very jazzy old-school hipster vibe to it.

I love this name but do think it better suited to a furry friend than a human child.
This name makes me think of a really cool, musical, intelligent guy. Also, Jarvis Cocker, frontman of Pulp and musician. There is also the less-cool and less-famous bearer, Jarvis Lorry of A Tale of Two Cities.
