Popularly claimed to be derived from the Italian word isola "island", this name might actually rather be a variant of Isolda.Isola Wilde was the younger sister of author and playwright Oscar Wilde. Isola died aged eight of meningitis, and her brother dedicated the poem Requiescat to her memory.
