If you've ever lived in Bosnia-Herzegovina you'd know that this name is SO POPULAR there. I've had 4 Iman's in my first grade class before we moved. It's way too common. The name itself sounds a bit too masculine for me to be able to like it.

I have a friend at my school named Iman (she is really nice :D) and that is how I learned about this name. I really like it! I love the meaning of the name especially. It's really nice!
Iman is my name; One who believes in God and his Angels is one definition. I love this name and I am a male born in the United States to African-American parents practicing Islam in the Nation Of Islam.I was disappointed to discover it is feminine and I thought my Mother was clueless naming me but it appears the attributes of the name meant more than its gender. The prononciation is difficult for typical westerners and my name has been butchered. I have offered alternatives to the feeble-minded such as Imanuel, Manny, or 'E'. Don't hesitate choosing this name for those because of difficult pronunciation... this is a great name and, as I am told, not specifically one gender or the other.
My friend is named Iman. She's Bosnian, and often complains that here in the United States, people tend to pronounce her name I-man. She switched schools this year, and goes by "Molly" now. I think it's disappointing that she's abandoning such a unique name (here) in favor of something more common.
