As a writer, I'll say this. I think it's a good name. But if your plot is centered around the idea of flying too close to the sun, this name is way too on the nose.
My first name in real life is Icarus. Some people call me Iccy. A lot of people say they love my name. Others think I'm joking until I show them my ID.Many talk about the story but don't know the final story. After Icarus falls to the ocean and dies, Poseidon, the god of the ocean feels sorry for him and resurrects him as an archer of the sky palace. So the Greek story of Icarus has a happy ending.

I think of the story Icarus and Daedalus. That is the only association I have and this name is a bit out there if you know what I mean. I think this name would be a no. It has 'ick' at the beginning :/
Gorgeous name, sounds like the name of a poet. Yes, the story is well known... but it's important to have dreams and persevere. Makes for a nice middle name.
Ike would make a cute nickname, and would tone down the strong name some :)

I think that Icarus is a brilliant name! It sounds very classy and intelligent. The only drawback, in my opinion, is the fate of the character in the story. And I guess that kids at school might tease him by nicknaming him "Icky".
It's a cool name with a nice sound, and it even looks cool, but I wouldn't want to name my son after a character that flew too close to the sun and got burned. We're all heard the damn story related in one way or another when people have discussed the high aims and failures of people, with poorly masked Schadenfreude, of course, so you can imagine how hard it would be for a person named Icarus, because everyone would be waiting for him to fail, just so that they could talk about him setting his aims too high and getting burned.
