I've always liked the name Hugh. It sounds classy, handsome, and strong yet gentle at the same time. I think it is a great name that is timeless and ages well.
I never had an opinion about this name until I met someone named Hugh. I actually love that it sounds like "Hue"... the person I know is so radiant it's the perfect name for him.
I like Hugh but I cannot picture it on anyone younger than 45. It just doesn't seem right. Hugh reminds me of Hugh Jackman. A nice soft name for a boy.
I don't love it as a first name (Sounds like Who? Or even "Huge") I really like it as a middle name though, Alexander Hugh or Nicholas Hugh would be nice.
If my two year old had been a boy I would have used Hugh. I really love this name. It's not overly used! Plus, there are some great actors with that name and I admire them for their craft immensely. It does have a breathy sound, and sometimes it sounds like you are saying YOU. Plus, when he is a baby, people will call him "Baby Hughie". But I still adore it!
It's a nice name. But yeah, I guess it's better for it to be avoided if the last name starts with "J" ('cause of silly "huge" jokes). Other than that, "Hugh" has a good meaning and sounds okay. (:

I think this is one of those names that are masculine but still "sensitive" sounding. I would consider using it as a middle name because it's a traditional name in my family.
I never did like the sound of this name. If you're going to use it, make sure your surname isn't Johnson, James, or anything that starts with a J or the 'jee'-sound. If your surname starts with those sounds, there will be ''huge ___'' jokes.
