Country music legend Hank Williams was born with the name Hiram King Williams. I couldn't find the why, but he started going by Hank in 1937.

The related name Hyrum is often used by LDS parents because the prophet Joseph Smith's brother was named Hyrum Smith. Hyrum was martyred alongside Joseph and is a major role in the church's history.
