For some reason, I like this spelling much more than Helen. Helen reminds me of old ladies and Helen Hunt; Hellen reminds me of spunky teenagers. If I had a daughter named Hellen, or was called so myself, I would probably prefer to call/be called Nell.
Although I like also the name "Helen" I think "Hellen" is somehow much more beautiful. I like "Hellen", because it isn't so ordinary and because it is a bit "fuller" name than "Helen". I also like how "Hellen" makes the name "Ellen" without "h" and how "Helle" means "warm weather" in Finnish. I think it's just beautiful and unique name!
Yikes! When I see this name as a variant of 'Helen' I just kind of shudder lol. It isn't feminine AT ALL and sounds very harsh when spoken. I would NOT name my baby girl this. It sounds outrageously cold when emphasis is put on the second 'L'. As a historical male Greek (I think) name, it's fine. But not in my opinion as a little girls name/spelling. Just my opinion. :)
