Halle Tanner Dillon Johnson (1864 – 1901) was an American physician. She was the first black woman, as well as woman of any race, to be licensed as a physician in Alabama.
Halle Maria Berry is an American actress, film producer, and former fashion model. She won an Academy Award for Best Actress in 2002 for her performance in the romantic drama Monster's Ball, which made her the only black woman to win a Best Actress Academy Award to date, as of 2017.
Halle Suggs was Sethe's husband in the Nobel Prize winning novel Beloved, by Toni Morrison. While Halle's name likely doesn't have the same origins as this entry, I suspect it's closer than the first entry for Halle.
