From my understanding, the name is only used by Christians, specifically Copts. It may be an Arab translation of an older Coptic name, Menrit, which means the same thing.

This name is also common in Pakistan, Indonesia, and Dagestan, and it's written as حبیب in Urdu, ХIабиб in Avar, Гьабиб in Lezgin, and Хӏябиб in Dargin.
