Meaning & History
Directly taken from the Engish word fantasy, which was ultimately derived from Old French fantasie (“fantasy”), from Latin phantasia (“imagination”), from Ancient Greek φαντασία (phantasía, “apparition”). This word is basically a doublet of Fancy (see also Fantasia).
