Eppie is the pet name given to a child in the book "Silas Marner" by George Eliot. In the book she is found by Silas who adopts her as his own and names her after his mother and his sister, Hephzibah, and calls her Eppie for short. Later Squire Godfrey Cass reveals that she is his daughter from a previous marriage.

This name is used as a nickname for the name Hepzibah in George Eliot's novel Silas Marner, but I know a girl who also uses it as a nickname for September.
