Seems like there’s a few origins/usages of the name. 1. Enola as an English name, meaning “alone” backwards, namesake Enola Holmes 2. Enola as a Cherokee name (see also Inola) meaning “black fox” 3. Enola as a French name, variant of Breton Enora ultimately meaning “honour” (this is the origin I’ve seen almost all French-language name websites have for the name. Not sure if there’s proper evidence for this etymologically or not, but the French certainly seem to believe it.)
Enola is alone backwards. Apparently it comes from a book "Enola; or, her Fatal Mistake". Paul W. Tibbets, the pilot of the Enola Gay, named his plane after his mother. The story goes his grandfather was reading the book just before his mother was born and thus her name.
Enola is 'alone' spelled backwards. It was part of the nickname for the bomber plane that dropped the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan in world war two, Enola Gay.

This name is derived from a Cherokee word for Grey Fox. It can be masculine or feminine, although most often it is used as a feminine name in recent times. A variant transcription is Inole.
Enola is not Native American at all. It's amongst the large amount of names that is falsey thought so. "It was invented as the name of the heroine of an old romance novel." http://www.native-languages.org/wrongnames.htm

ENOLA stands for the word ALONE backwards. It is a Native American name meaning MAGNOLIA. Sadly famous for the B29 bomber that dropped "Little Boy", the first atomic bomb over Hiroshima. It was used in the film "Waterworld".
The name "Elona" backwards is "Alone" and that is the meaning of the name. The name gained popularity and usage after the 20th century blockbuster "Waterworld" in which an abandoned girl is given this name.
At www.all-names.com it says that Enola is a Native American name and that it means 'solitary.'
