Enoch Bowen is the founder of the Church of Starry Wisdom in H. P. Lovecraft's short story "The Haunter of the Dark." As an archeologist and occultist, he uncovered the Shining Trapezohedron, a peculiar stone contained in a box, from Nephren-Ka's tomb in Egypt. He later bought the Free-Will Church in Providence, Rhode Island, and founded the aforementioned Starry Wisdom sect at the church.

Using his political position to his advantage, his rule encompassed the Roaring Twenties when Atlantic City was at the height of its popularity as a temporary refuge from Prohibition, his organization also being involved in bootlegging, gambling and prostitution. There is a show (based on a book) loosely based on him wherein Steve Buscemi plays Enoch "Nucky" Thompson.

Enoch Arden is the titular character of a poem by Alfred Lord Tennyson. It covers the life of a fisherman, Enoch, who is lost at sea while away trying to build wealth for his family. In his absense, his wife remarries relunctantly. Many years later, he returns, but in order not to disrupt her happiness, he remains anonymous until he dies of grief. The poem explores the morals of Enoch's leaving -- should he have stayed and tried to provide for them in other ways, or was he justified in leaving since he did so out of duty to them?
