My nephew is Elio and no one can say it right. People say EEL-io, ILL-io, but almost never EL-io. Maybe it’s the old reference to the pizza, who knows. But it’s annoying that such a simple name gets mispronounced so often. Poor kid will be correcting everyone his whole life.

Italian pronunciation of Elio:EYH-Lyoh"E" is similar to both "eh" (as in "echo") and "eyh" (close to "may," sans "m"). Stress the "I" to "EE." "O" is round, as in "Oasis"; "Oh." What we now have is EYH-Lee-Oh, and it is correct, but when spoken the "Lee-Oh" often sounds more compressed - "Lyoh."
