I've known two Greek-American women named Eleni. One pronounced it L-N-E, equal stress on all syllables, and the other pronounced it like ee-LANE-ee. I think it's very pretty, and I prefer the L-N-E pronunciation.

I like the L-N-E explanation of how to pronounce the name. I will have to use that one. That is how we say our daughter's name, but we spelt it Elanie and always say it like Melanie without the M.

Eleni is my name. It's Greek. It's pronounced E-leh-nee. (Like saying the letters LNE together) It's the phonetic spelling of the Greek name "Ελένη" which is anglicized as Helen.

I believe this name is pronounced el-LEN-ee. It is a diminutive of Elene, which is the Greek for of Helen. I absolutely adore this name, but only when it is pronounced with a Greek accent. I don't really hear the name Lenny in it, but even if I did, what's wrong with Lenny?
So, this is not the normal way to pronounce the name, but my wife is Eleni, and when her parents named her, they decided to pronounce it EL-in-eye, as her mother didn't want her to ever be called 'Lenny.' My wife usually tells people to pronounce it just like the letters: L-N-I. :) We also have friends who named their daughter Eleni with the same pronunciation, though she always goes by 'Ella.'
