Honestly I really dislike this name. I find the sound of that name a bit harsh on my ears. The root ‘Edel-‘ spoken aloud sounds pretty goofy. This name sounds distinctly dated too. Even in its country of origin - Germany - this name is nowhere near as commonly used today as it once was centuries ago. To summarize, I find it ugly and dated. No offense to the Edelgards out there.
I love this name because: A. It's not embarrassing to say out loud. B. It's not common where I live so people will know who I'm talking about (well, expect for Fire Emblem fans). C. It's not too feminine (so it would fit a tomboy) yet still feminine enough to fit a girly girl. I'll definitely keep it in mind for the future.
To summarize, I find it ugly and dated. No offense to the Edelgards out there.
