It's an acceptable name in the culture it came from, but where I live it sounds too much like "dippy" for anyone to be taken seriously.

I think, in Indian speaking areas of the world, this would be a great name for a child, but not in America; it's just too awkward. However, I might just use it for a story I'm writing with an Indian character in it. Just a side note, I used to call my pacifier 'Dipti' when I was younger.
