The name Dionne originates from Ancient Greek mythology. It means “divine goddess or queen” (or simply “goddess” in modern Greek and “divine” in French) and is a feminine form of Zeus (Dios), the king of the gods. Dione (Διώνη) was a Titaness, the oracle of Dodona in Thesprotia, a consort of Zeus, the mother of Aphrodite, a witness to the birth of Apollo, and, in some stories, the mother of Dionysus. Dione appears in Homer’s Iliad, Hesiod’s Theogony, and Orpheus’s sacred books. The 4th largest moon of Saturn, discovered by Italian French astronomer Giovanni Cassini in 1684, is named after Dione.
