Love this name 100% "die-nah" pronunciation. Though, I used it for my cat b/c I got scared of the meaning 'judged', feels a little heavy. Regret that I didn't save it for the baby comes and goes OFTEN!
My name is Dinah... pronounced DIE-NUH. I love my name and I have never come across anyone with it. My mother was watching the Dinah Shore show right after she delivered me and when asked by the nurse "have you decided on her name?" she immediately answered, "Yes, her name is Dinah!" Dinah Shore was a stage name but I've always felt like an original. :-)
It should be pronounced Dee-Nah, not Dye-Nah, or else it would be awful. Sounds a bit modern, though it may be a bit common, but not in my opinion. I find it a calmly bold, sophisticated name that pleases the senses if you know what I mean. Simply nice.
Just wanted to say, I don't think the boys are going to sing "Dinah, won't you blow" to a girl named Dinah, as hardly any young person knows that song... especially boys who would do such a thing in the first place. It's more likely to get connected with Dinah the kitten from Alice in Wonderland, as many more kids will have seen the Disney movie than heard that old song.
When I was 4 I named my first and only kitten Dinah. It's a pretty name.

After reading the novel "The Red Tent" by Anita Diamant, which depicts the life of the biblical Dinah the daughter of Jacob and Leah, I now have a new appreciation for this name.
I love this name. Dinah from the Bible is a great association too.

I absolutely LOVE this name! It's so pretty and feminine without being common at all. I would definitely name my daughter this (although the "Dinah won't you blow" thing is a bit weird, but then how many teenagers out there actually know that tune nowadays?). It also makes me think of Alice and Wonderland, for obvious reasons.
I didn't like this name at first, but it's grown on me. I think it would suit almost any personality. Maybe I'll use it as a middle name in the future.
If I named my daughter this, people will sing "Dinah won't you blow, Dinah won't you blow, Dinah won't you blow your horn?" I don't want that to happen. Plus this name is too old-fashioned.
I don't like the pronunciation "DIE-na"; it's always sounded like a woman's intimate parts to me, if I may use such a phrase. It also sounds like a pampered rich girl. And then of course, you have "Dinah, won't you blow, Dinah, won't you blow, Dinah, won't you blow your horn?" Go with "DEE-nah".
We should not forget the other lyrics: "Dinah won't you blow? Dinah won't you blow? Dinah won't yo blooooow?" No teenage girl wants the boys to sing THAT at her!
