I'm a trans guy, and while I was working on my name change, this was the one that really stuck out to me. My friends have also said they really like this name, and it fits me really well. All in all, I love the name.

Let me change my name! I’m 26 and I don’t hate my name Dexter, but I dislike it. I have lisps first off, and Dexter always is mispronounced. I like to be called Dec, not Dex or Dexter. And Dexter’s laboratory ruined it for me, too! I hope you don’t name your child Dexter, I might change my name to a slightly more mature name like Declan or something.

Say Dexter in a baby voice to child to teen, young adult, man, middle age and elderly man out loud right now. It’s called the age test that you should use for every name. No to Dexter!
I love this name as I love the character Dexter off Dexter's Laboratory. :)

I wanted my son to have a name that was not overused, more original, and yet went well with his English last name. My other criteria was that it could sound formal as an adult or if abbreviated sounded casual so I named him Dexter. The name suits him perfectly. By the time he was in 7th grade he took his first SAT test (thanks to previous high test scores) and based on his scores was allowed to go to college for math. He received perfect SAT scores on his physics and math placement test for college. So maybe with the name came high expectations... He is now a college graduate, engaged, and working as an Engineer.

I cannot help but adore this name-- no matter how loudly geeky it may appear in certain instances and associations (... look who's talking: the Trek fan). It is a straight forward, no nonsense name that possesses incredibly boyish demeanor yet holds a candlelight that will grow as the bearer matures and enters the professional world."Dexter" reminds me of the reason I joined BehindTheName... to discover (or rediscover) horribly ignored treasures.
I think Dexter is an adorable name. Everyone I know hates it, though. Too bad. It's a thousand times better than all these trendy, fluffy names young parents are using today.
In the past, this name never really stuck out to me. But after I started watching the tv show 'Dexter' and hearing it all the time, this name has really grown on me! I think it's cute for a little boy, and cool at the same time. I also really like using "Dex" as a nickname!
This is a brilliant name. It looks like a very intelligent and cool name. I love it.

Dexter is an awesome name. My friend had a cat named Dexter so I started liking this name at a very young age. It sounds really cool when you say it and I think it works well on a person at any age. It also works well on a pet.
My male cousin's name is Dexter, and he usually cuts it short to Dex to keep it informal. I love it and he's always found that the general public does too.
This has always been one of my favorite names. When I was a baby, I had a stuffed dolphin from a dolphinarium that was bigger than me, and I named it Dexter the Dolphin. I don't even know where I got that name at such a young age, I don't remember hearing it at all before I named my stuffed animal that.
My name is Dexter and I think it's was the first great thing my mother ever did for me, other than giving birth. Through school people would be interested in me just because of my name and it made it easy to make friends, especially since I moved to a new school in high school. Even in college it's a great conversation starter, just because you don't run into it very often.
