It's not a bad name, I personally wouldn't use it, but it does make me think of Star Trek. But I do love Jadzia Dax, and the other Dax hosts, so it's a great namesake, but you'd have to be into that sort of thing.

My stepbrother was named Dax in the 70s after The Adventurer's book and so I named my oldest daughter Dax as a middle name. As a trans person they chose to go by their middle name Dax and love that unusual name though it's hard to get anything with that name on it.

Dax is cool. I like Ajax too. Ax is a really cool sound to have in a name. And although I prefer Ajax, Dax is also cool. I like Dax more as a middle name.

My cat's name is Dax! My mom named him as a sort of pun on the word 'polydactyl' since he was born with extra toes. I think it's cute and definitely suits an animal, but I can't make sense of it for a human being.

My name is Dax and I was born in 1988. Though I am not a man of high stature, I have had a very positive response to my name, many people tell me how much they like my name. Some have named their kids Dax after meeting me. I have never had a regret being named Dax.

My name is Dax and I was named Dax in 1974. I am now reading the negative comments about the name and to be honest I bet you haters are called Dave or Kevin or some other generic boring run of the mill name which defines you as a narrow minded person. My name stands me out from the crowd and makes meeting people more interesting and a change from just saying "I'm John or Steve" or any other mundane name.

My name is Dax. I am an 18 year old FEMALE, and I love my name. It has an edge to it, it is a conversation starter, and it is unique. This is something that I cherish and is what makes me feel like "me." All names are beautiful, and who are we to say otherwise?

I was born in the mid 70's when Dax was popular (well..., top 900) and had the pleasure to grow up with a boy named Dax and then meet two others later on, both a man and a woman.
I will admit the name Dax can come off a bit strange or facetious when you are looking at the name in front of a computer screen and hearing it for the first time, but actually meeting someone named Dax evokes an entirely different perspective. When paired with a face it is a very natural sounding name; playful, very strong, and classic (I think of roman empire era).
I can say for sure, everybody loved my friend's name growing up, he was certainly popular in school and also a great student (I'm sure good parenting has more to do with it, but the name certainly didn't impede him in anyway). He eventually became a trial lawyer and avid mountain climber (pretty cool guy). Later in grad school, I met another Dax who also loved his name growing up. We are both chemical engineers now working 2000 miles apart and I run into people all the time in our industry who have heard of him (it is very easy to remember).
If I have a son, I will name him Dax, probably Dax Anthony. It is energetic, unique (for now), dominant, upper-class, and both trendy & classic sounding at the same time. My generation embraced it and I'm sure the next one will too. Not to say it goes well with every last name, but if the last name is long or ethnic sounding, Dax really mellows it down; nice and refined.
If you are a parent thinking about this name, ignore the haters on this thread, they probably never met a Dax.

No one is passing judgment on the CHILD with this name, they are expressing their opinions about the NAME itself. Get off your own high horse.

As a nickname, "Dax" holds my golden approval. As a legal first name, "Dax" holds my utter disgust, distaste, and disapproval. It is an atrocity in professional life-- thus unprofessional. Incredibly unintelligent, and seems as though it would be a choice from southern pageant mothers. Uneducated, pretentious, attempted ornate, unbelievably childish.

This name is very unique and rarely used. It seems to be sophisticated, yet simple. Any boy or man should be proud to have this name.

I named my son Dax after Werner was shot down by his father, and Gustaf brought on a wrath from my mother as "too ethnic". However I found myself drawn to the name Dax from some little voice within.
Having met a Dax and not thought much of him socially it's not a name that was on my radar. Dax is the name of Kirk Douglas's heroic character in the Stanley Kubrick film Paths of Glory. Being a big Kirk Douglas fan I was sold upon Dax.
There is a bit of trouble with people hearing his name properly at times but I simply say, "Dax like Max, but with a D". Dax's middle name Luxemburg creates the perfect nickname-DLux- and people seriously have swooned over how sweet and playful his name is.
Dax means water in French, as well as is the name of the German stock exchange.
I don't get how previous comments could be so harsh to such a clean, crisp, strong, affirmative, friendly and authoritative name that is oh so flexible. This is one happy mama's opinion.
