I was an avid Sailor Moon fan when I was little, so of course I first think of Tuxedo Mask and Serena screaming his name, but I still love it. Most likely because of the Tuxedo-influence, I get a sense of mystery and a protector with the name, almost Batman-like: A hero in the dark. I have used this name before, and I think it's a wonderful name, though I do think it is more of a boy's name than a girl's name. I'm not totally against a girl being called Darien, but unless there's a change of spelling (Darienne), I think it's more appropriate for a boy. But that could be the Sailor Moon fan in me talking!
I really like the sound of this name, I don't mind it for boy or girl but personally I lean towards boy for this name.

My 10 year old son is called Darien. I heard the name on an early 90's space age programme called Time Trax and fell in love with it, most people think it should be Darren. He gets called Daz now for short which is a shame, I think it's cool!
