The first time i heard this name was when i played DMC. The main Character of the game was a very handsome exciting powerful guy with a long grey hair, who was named DANTE. Later on I learned this name was Italian-rooted.As a non-Italian who hasn't met any Dantes, I have to say that this name is as attractive as other Italian things. Their cars, brands, cuisine, language. If you're named Dante, you can thank your parents for this luminous name. One of the best out there.
In Italy this would be like naming your kid "Shakespeare". Dante isn't even the full name, it's a nickname for "Durante", which sounds even more silly! Unless you're an obnoxious Italian American with enough skin and hair oil to cook a batch of Mcfries, I suggest leaving this name to the poet...
Too witchy though.
Not a fan. The Dante's Inferno association is too strong for my taste.
One of my favorite names for a boy or a girl. I love Dante's Inferno. It is so magically Italian and intelligent sounding.
A friend of mine just had a son and named him this. I really like it! It's cute, but ages well. Dante has a brother named Samuel, which I think is a nice combination.
Honestly, I love the name and f word all the haters.
I’ve gotten nothing but compliments my whole life bearing this name. My dad’s been a Dante’s Inferno fanboy since he was a kid. He still has the exact same book his dad gave him since he was a kid, only it’s in Portuguese (he’s from Brazil) and everyone always added how my last name goes good with it too, Pepitone (Italian last name).
My favourite Italian male name. I'm in love with it. If I ever have a son I'll name him Dante.
I've always heard this name around pop culture (more specifically DMC or Dante's Inferno) and always thought it was a cool and manly name. Thus, I've named my son this! The only thing that irritates me is that even though it's an Italian name, a lot of baby boomers seem to think it's a "black person's" name.
Dante sounds so awesome and cool! I'd just use this as a middle name though, because I was originally going to be named this, and it would be kinda awkward for me to... well, you know.
I have a cousin named Dante, and when I was little, before I heard of Dante Alighieri and other famous people named Dante, I honestly thought he was the only person in the world with that name, which I found super cool and unique because I always met people with the same name as me. It's really a cool name.
I like it. Sounds cool.
This is a beautiful name. Our son's name is Joshua Dante and it's pronounced the same way as the poet. My husband is Italian and we wanted to pick an Italian middle name with a beautiful meaning and this was it. The meanings of both of his names together are strong and we liked that. We always get compliments on his name.
I think this is a nice name, but at least here in Italy it's probably also a difficult name to carry. Especially when in middle school kids start studying the Comedy...
Dante is one of the most badass names out there ('cause of the Devil May Cry video game series). :p I love the history the name Dante has, and how it doesn't sound outdated; the fact it's Italian is brill. Sounds wonderfully masculine & cool and overall Dante is a fawesome name! ^____^
I adore the name Dante! It has never crossed my mind either until I read Dante's Girl by Courtney Cole. Now I feel like I'm obsessed with this name. I'd definitely consider the name Dante for my son in the future :)
I adore "Dante," as a nickname to "Durante" solely. I will certainly keep it in mind if I ever decide to have kids. It holds a classic elegance, but still contains enough masculinity. One note-- it is extremely ethnic sounding... and I cannot stress enough that it should only be used on those of the name's origin blood. Otherwise it is inexplicably tacky.
An appropriate surname must be possessed, as well. Dante Melchiorre, gorgeous and strong. Dante Wellington... very cheap, I apologize.
That also stands true for Russian, Greek, Irish, German, and so on and so forth.
This is OK. It's not my favorite, but it's beginning to grow on me, probably because one of my favorite book series stars a character named Dante. :P
I'm sooo in love with this name. It's simple but yet complex. It has history and it's Italian (which is the most beautiful language), but it's still easy to pronounce in English. It's not over-used neither! Perfect!
I prefer it pronounced Dan-tay.
I love this name. It has a sort of melancholy ring to it, and it sounds simultaneously strong and sensitive. Great literary connotation, as well.
I love this name, it sounds like a Romantic Hero. I am planning on calling my boy Dante (Don-TAY) I love the way it sounds when I say the name. Dante just seems like an underused beautiful name.
I like this name spelt Donté (like in Waterloo Road, the British school drama). It's cool.
I love this name so much! If I ever have a son (I like it for a girl too, so either way) I'm definitely naming him this. Devil May Cry kind of made me love the name more, because Dante's amazing. But, still, this name is beautiful :) I love it.
I lovelovelove this name. It kind of gives a mysterious feel, I think. I named my black cat Dante.
I have identical twins brothers Danté and Luke! But people never get the pronunciation correct! They call him Dann-tee! Or Diane-te! That is why we added the dash over the e! And a nickname that seems to have stuck is Dan the Man!
I know a girl named Dante, she's the nicest girl I've ever met! I thought the name was weird at first but it grew on me a lot and now I think it's a really cool name for a boy or girl.
At first I hated this name. But after I played the game Devil May Cry I decided to do some research. I found out that Dante has a lot of really great traits for person and it also has a pretty good history. I definitely would use this name for my son. I think the combination Dante Ignatius, meaning "Enduring fire" is very cool. Also the combination Dante Zerachiel, meaning "Enduring command of God" is absolutely wonderful. =D.
This name is, well, cool!
The name Dante has grown on me. It is a nice sounding name for a boy.
I think Dante is one of the most beautiful names ever. I sounds so soft. LOVE it!
Dante never crossed my mind as a name I might like until I read a book where Dante is the hero's name. Since then Dante has grown on me.
