It is during his time at Ajax that the name Daley first appeared in the name popularity statistics of the Netherlands, namely in the year 2010. As Blind's career progressed (and with it, his fame), the name gradually increased in popularity. In 2014, the name suddenly made a huge jump in popularity, which is thanks to Blind's contributions to the Netherlands national team at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, where the Dutch managed to reach the 3rd place. This made enough of an impression (on prospective parents) that it enabled the name to reach its absolute peak the following year. After that, it gradually declined in popularity overall. This might possibly be explained by the fact that the Netherlands failed to qualify for both the 2016 UEFA European Football Championship and the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
The name has since enjoyed a brief revival in 2020 and 2022, due to respectively the 2020 UEFA European Football Championship and the 2022 FIFA World Cup, both of which the Netherlands (and Daley Blind) participated in.
