I think Clématite, the French version of the name, is cute, but Clematis is definitely more mature. I will use this name in a book that I am writing.

I like unusual names, but this one has bad implications for me. It is the name of a local area well known (even by tourists) for its entertainment, clubs and bars--basically nightlife. If someone had this kind of name around these parts, especially a child, people would kinda wonder how that came to be. XD
I pronounce this name "KLEM-ə-tis" or "KLE-mə-tis" - emphasis on the first syllable, as in Clementine. I prefer it to "klə-MAT-is", the one given, which sounds like the words chlamydia and climactic. "klə-MAH-tis" would be better also, softer and more feminine in my opinion. The gorgeous Clematis flower symbolizes mental beauty and art. So I imagine a girl named Clematis would be fiercely intelligent and a brilliant, gifted artist.
