I love Debussy. This has got to be one of my favourite boy's names.

Hi! I had my name changed five years ago as I wanted to have an original name. My mom's name is Claudia, and I was named after her. So, just out of the blue, I went to the Court and changed my first name from Claudia to Claude, and I genuinely like it very much! The only issues I've gotten are the comments from Hispanic people who are not used to a woman named Claude. In Europe, there is cultural growth, and I should live over there in the future. Well, I just wanted to share this with all of you.
I am an American woman born in 1960 and my name is Claude. In France, where the name originates, the "e" on the end denotes the feminine. Unfortunately that distinction is not recognized here in the US. My mother, being a romantic, named me after the heroine of a French novel she was reading while she was pregnant with me. It was called The Awakening. As an American and a female at that, it was a hard name to grow up with in the 60's. I got teased a lot. I guess I could say I have grown into my name, although it was a long time coming. It is a proud (some might even say haughty) and very strong name. I still don't like it very much but I have made peace with it. I've never met another woman with my name!
I am Dutch and would love Claude as a name for a daughter, like Queen Claude of France and her granddaughter Princess Claude from Reign. In my native language it would be pronounced: Cl-ow-duh. I love the classic, elegant and yet free-spirited and down to earth sound of it.
I think this name is a classic and rare which is a big plus in my book. The reservation I would have with this Gallic classic would be the similarity to the word ‘clod’, and how it is pronounced. Other than that it is a decent name.

Love this name, especially as a middle. Monet and Debussy are great namesakes.
Cool name I guess, but I can't get over associating it with Claude Frollo from the Hunchback of Notre Dame. If you don't know what I'm talking about, go watch the Disney movie and wait till your brain is fried and your nightmares are haunted by a pedophile/murderer/Catholic priest/abusive parent/genocidal maniac named Claude Frollo. If you do know what I'm talking about... I'm sorry. (I could rant all day about how it's the darkest Disney movie ever made, but that's for another day...)
I hate Claude. Claude is a stuck up person who only cares about themselves. Claude thinks they are better than everyone else but the truth is they aren't.

I was named Claude in 1966 because my mother was a fan of Claude François, famous pop singer in France in 60s and 70s (Sinatra adapted one of his hits as "My way"). It was already declining and rare and I knew few people having the same.
This is such a strong, masculine name. Whoever would use this as a feminine name is out of their mind! If you want a feminine name, try Claudia or Claudine. Leave boys' names and boys' names.
To me, this name has always been masculine, and it sounds utterly masculine. The name Claudia should be used for girls, not this. And this name sounds really pretentious and snobby in English-speaking countries. It should be left to French usage.
