I personally like this name. But in the novel called “Anthem,” a character named Claire thinks her name is the worst name possible, and she blames her parents for her suicide because they named her Claire. Entitled spoiled kids today, eh?

Has anyone noticed how many movies and TV shows use the name Claire? I feel like it is the most used female name recently. On ranker they have 42 instances of Claire being used as a Fictional name. That is a lot! Clearly Hollywood loves the name.

Claire is also used as a masculine given name in French and English (as a French form of Clarus), alongside Clair. However, Claire is more common for females. So, I think that the "Gender" of this name should be updated from "Feminine" to "Feminine & Masculine"; and the "Meaning & History" section of this name should be updated to read, "French form of Clara or Clarus." My sister's name. She's not 'clear' about anything but it's still a lovely meaning. Claire is a french adjective meaning clear but Clare isn't a French variation. There are more Clares than Claires in England. Though both variations are quite popular with the 80s generation I think now it's declining.
