Christine does not mean "Christian" or "christ-like", nor is it a variant of Christina.Christine is the original feminine form of Christopher which means "Christ-Bearer". Similar to Israel in the old-testament, the first Christopher (Saint Christopher) was dubbed so because he carried the Christ-child over a river.

My understanding of the name Christine, is that it is an early form of "Christian", Greek for "an anointed Christian."
