I thought it was pronounced with the C like an S sound: S-erys? Or with a sharp E sound for the Y: Care-E-ss. Or even Kah-r-E-ss. Or at least that was my preference- I guess I just like to have a sharp point in an otherwise soft name? Either way, it’s beautiful.
My name is Carys with the middle names Lily Grace after my great grandmas. I love my unique name and its lovely multiple meanings in Welsh. Although it is hard for a lot of people to pronounce!
This is a gorgeous name and I personally love the Kah-riss pronunciation just because Care-riss reminds me of other mundane names like Harris and I love how Kah-riss sounds almost like caress which gives the meaning love and even more intimate sounds. I don't even remember hearing this name but I personally think it's across the board lovely. However I would only use it as a middle name because I think it's true that there are just some names that us people in the states have a hard time with and I would rather have it be used in some part of my future kid name than none at all. Like I would love to use Victoria Carys, I think it flows well together and it gives a unique feel to a rather traditional name. My thing personally always with names for my kids is that if you can hear it and spell it, it is a keeper because going through that can be annoying and cause issues for these kids in every aspect of life, but that's just me.
My daughter is called Carys Elizabeth and I think it is a beautiful modern first name with a traditional middle name in case she tires of being unusual. Luckily she likes it. Can be shortened to Caz or Cat.
My name is Carys and I really love the name! My mom named me Carys because she loves Welsh names. She was originally going to name me Brinn, but chose Carys instead. I'm currently in school right now but we're doing an essay on what our names mean and where they came from, so I just wanted to put a comment on here. ;p.
My name is also Carys Emily and my nickname is Caz. I and all my friends love this name- it just sounds so calm. It is very unique as I don't know anybody that has this name but I find it very annoying how if you tell someone your name you have got to repeat it several times so that person can understand it properly. Also, many people mistake it for Cerys which I also find very annoying. Anyhow, I love this name!
My name is similar to Carys... Carice- pronounced Ca-reese. I have had many compliments in my lifetime and never met another, yet heard about 2 others with the name spelled differently...
I do love this name. It's not overly frilly like some girls' names, but still feels feminine. In my area (south-central US) it is very nearly unheard of. The sounds of the two syllables makes it pronounceable in most languages with few, if any, tweaks. It's just lovely. It does surprise me that it's a relatively new name. It has a timeless feel to it. Maybe because of it's similarity to Charis/Caris? Though, that name is equally unheard of where I'm from.I admit that instinct is to pronounce it CARE-iss, which I gather is incorrect. Even my autocorrect keeps trying to turn it in to the possessive of Cary. Even so, I find both KAA-riss and CARE-iss to both be lovely. Really, the only drawbacks to the name is that I think CARE-iss might be the default for a lot of people, and I think that in my local accent KAH-riss will frequently lead to situations of: "Umm, Kuh'riss Jones? "It's Carys." "That's what I said. K'riss." "No. It's Carys. Not Chris." "You just said your name is K'riss, not K'riss." O. O *screams*
I'm welsh and named my daughter Carys 4 years ago, I personally think it is a very pretty and modern sounding welsh name.

Hello, my name is Carys. I just adore this name, because it's unique! I'm from the UK, London. But my name is from the UK, Wales! I like that it's not the same boring thing. This is my opinion. But the name Carys: Welsh! Meaning: A Loved one. ❤️
You are incorrect about two things: First, this name is in fact used in Wales, its currently rated #229. Second, it is not an old name, unless this website is incorrect because it states the name is relatively modern having only been around since the mid 20th century (around the 50's or 60's). Anyway, to add my personal opinion, I have to agree with the person who doesn't get why everyone loves this name. It's not terrible, but the fact that it's modern turns me off and the y in the middle looks odd. That may be because I don't like many welsh names though.

This is one of the best female Welsh names. The meaning and the sound is so nice. Actors Catherine Zeta Jones and Michael Douglas knew something about names when they chose to name their daughter Carys. And she's so adorable.
I don't understand why so many people like Carys on this website. I find it kind of overrated.

This is an incredibly beautiful name for a girl. I was given 2 different pronunciations for this name, Care-is or I was told to say the name Carissa and leave off the "sa" at the end of it when saying the name.

It's a great name to have... except when you have to repeat it to everyone you meet! They always call you Karen, or Carol and sometimes even worse! Once people understand the name however, it takes their breath away.
