The name Cambyses is related to the names Kabul and Cambodia. Kamboja was originally a Sanskrit-speaking kingdom in today Afghanistan and it was the king of that kingdom to found Funan, the original Khmer state. The name "Kamboja" originally comes from "Kam + Bhoi", denoting "the people of Kam". "Kam" is then related to "Kah" meaning straw.

Hello, my name is Gerasimos Kambites/Kambides/Combites, Cambyses. Genetically I am related to 21 per cent of Farsi speaking people. My father was from Greece and he was told that the name Kambites means "from the fields". Would be so interesting to see the meaning of Cambyses.
