I can't stand this name. I physically shudder to see it, or to hear it. Its "singular" and -lyn counterparts were already bad enough. I strongly believe in putting my personal opinions aside to respect people's names when I meet them. Which is why I sincerely hope I never have to meet anyone by this name because I know I just wouldn't be able to force my mouth make this awful sound, even if I should. I would seriously have to call them something different, or else never refer to them at all.

I dislike the name because it’s too similar to the female name Brooke, and the S makes it look plural. Why name a kid Rivers when you can name him River? I guess people don’t name their son Brook because it’s too similar to Brooke. Well, how about just picking an entirely different name then? There are plenty other B names to choose from: Brian, Bryce/Brice, Bruce, Bruno, etc.
It is my father's middle name, and my brother is a Jr. So this is what we call him. He was unfortunately called Brooke too often as a kid, since the name was so unique. He got the family nickname Skoorby when we were in a phase of pronouncing things backwards as kids, and my 2 yr old referred to him as Uncle Scurvy for a while ;)

Ugk. It looks like a plural. Not manly, whatsoever. I don't like most names that end with S. It looks plural.
This is my name. I like it and think it's neat having a name not everyone has, but it is annoying when people call you "Brook" or "Brooke". It is a really good name though, and I recommend it.
It sounds a bit nickname-y, but I kind of like it. It's not the world's most serious name, and it doesn't sound very mature, but it sounds like the name of a fun guy who also happens to be wise and friendly. Yes, I know that sounds contradictory, but the name sounds boyish and fun as well as the name of some guy who has life experience and good words of advice to his friends. Don't ask me why. It's a bit of an old-fashioned name, but not in a geeky or pretentious way.
I think this makes a good first name, the only trouble is that it's easy to become confused about whether it's a first name or surname. For example, I went to a school that employed one teacher with the last name of Brooks, and one with that as a first name - it got confusing very often.
