Though Blaine is traditionally male, it's a unisex name that's phonetically and orthographically appropriate on either a male or female. Blayne is an equally attractive option.
My name is Blaine and I have always liked the name. It's unique and most people who hear the name like it as well. You really can't go wrong with this name if you choose it. For some reason people usually associate this with someone who is part of the upper class. My grandmother said she met a banker back in the day and loved the name and suggested it to my mother.
I know a woman named Blaine. That's a first for me. But I actually didn't know it wasn't necessarily used for women at the time I met her. I wouldn't use it for my own purposes but it's not the worst name.
I LOVE this name. My husband and I named our son, Blaine. It's not a girls name, nor is it lame! If any of you have ever watched NHRA Drag racing, you would know your history of the name. Blaine Johnson was a top fuel dragster race driver. He was in a terrible accident at the Indy track in Indianapolis, IN. He was then air lifted to the nearest hospital where he was pronounced DOA. My husband was at the race at the NHRA annual National race down there. That's why we've named our son, Blaine. And by our opinion (of course ours is the only one that matters to our friends and family) the correct spelling of the name is: BLAINE! If my son's name is so lame, then why is Notre Dame looking at him for a full free baseball scholarship? No nonsense names here.
Bleynn is my name and I prefer my spelling over the rest. I've had nothing but success with my name. I always get comments on my name when I meet people and nobody ever forgets it! Having this name has been a win win because it's such a strong name and the guys really like it and the girls really love it! I'm living proof! So don't listen to any of the negative BS on this comments page! ;)
Blaine is my name. I think it is magnificent. When I was a boy, I wished it was something more common but now I revel in it. I am also pleased that I am not a member of the herd, rather unique and noteworthy.
My middle name is "Blaine" and my mom decided on it because my grandma's names are "Bonnie" and "Elaine"... combine them together and what do you get? :) I'm quite fond of it for that reason, and have never met anybody else with it.
Despite the negative comments, I like it. It's different but not bizarre. Unfortunately, it does rhyme with plain. I think it becomes much more usable if paired with a more accepted name like Jonathan, Matthew, William, etc.
Personally I like the name Blaine. Not only is this my middle name, but I prefer to go by it over my first name. It also disturbs me that two people completely insulted my name.
Since the only connection I have to this name is the character in Pretty in Pink, I really don't like Blaine. It sounds pretentious, and I personally am not fond of the "blah" sound.
