Honestly, it sounds pompous and pretentious, has no good nicknames, and can be a mouthful. But I love the name anyway. Something about it just captures my attention in a good way.
Barnabas is a name that seems to speak "17th century pirate" to me, because of the similarity to blunderbuss. I am a mild fan of Dark Shadows (the 1966-71 TV series, not the Johnny Depp film!), so I am familiar with this name.A short form is the sickening Barney, or the more ambiguous Barnaby. All in all, a mildly usable name.
Definitely a male name (don't get me wrong) I'm just having a hard time picturing it on a normal dude who's straight. I really am. It's an ugly name regardless of who has it. Thank god it's not popular! Thank. God.

There's nothing cool or remotely handsome about them. Awful names! Pass the chum bucket please.
