I like the name, and I also like the association with Barack Obama.
In the states, it's a little too associated with a former US president named Barack Obama.
I like it! It sounds sharp in a really good way.
Barack just sounds ugly...
I hated Obama. My brother's name is Brock, and he was born in 2005 before he was ever elected. People always confused his name with Barack. (I don't like Brock either) Michelle, how dare you get rid of sherbert in school lunches?!
Not very attractive, and it's too associated with Obama.
I am a big Obama fan, but even I can agree that this name is not very nice.
Although I like Mr Obama, you probably shouldn't use this name, at least not in America. Too close of an association. It is a pretty cool name nonetheless.
There are a lot of names in history that become absorbed by one person and that kind of ruins them for everyone. Barack was the name of a biblical character, but everyone is going to think that you're named after Barack Obama and his name has to come up constantly. It gets grating and awkward after some time.
At least it's Obama and not Osama.
I really didn’t like Barack Obama as president, but this name isn’t too bad. I will also let this pass seeing as I let Reagan pass and honestly, dropping personal associations aside, I do actually think this name isn’t that bad. I think this could rise within a couple of years like how Reagan did.
The name Barack is almost as horrible as its most famous bearer.
Why does everyone here hate Obama? This name is in no way as bad as Reagan, it is much better actually. Obama did much more in one month for the benefit of the country in a month then Reagan did in total, but Reagan is popular and no one can use Barack.
It certainly does mean 'blessing' if you're American. Something to be quite proud of. I don't think it matters that he's black, so people are making these silly comments over nothing.
It doesn't matter if this name is strongly associated with Obama, and his namesake does not devalue this name as a usable name. It's still just a name, and if a parent happens to like it, they're free to name their kid whatever they want. It's their choice.
I can't wait to see whether this name sees a boost in popularity, in the vein of the names Kennedy and Reagan. President Obama did an excellent job as President, and I could especially see this name being embraced in the black community.
Why would you want to name your kid after Barack Obama? The parents of this kid must have ridiculous aspirations.
Obviously, this name is now associated with President Obama. If it becomes more popular, this association will gradually be weakened until it becomes just a "normal" name. That's exactly what happened with Ingrid, which probably only became common outside Scandinavia because of actress Ingrid Bergman. (Incidentally, I like President Obama.)
If you used this name, Republicans would throw a fit. It also implies that you're a little too obsessed with Barack Obama. It's not a good idea to use names that everyone will associate with one person.
This name is one of those names that you cannot shake yourself from association with Barack Obama. I say don't name your child this. It makes you look like an Obama drone.
An awful name, mainly because of the association with Barack Obama, a very negative association, if you ask me.
To me, when you say it fast, it sounds like a chicken clucking. No offense to the president, of course. But that is my opinion and I know there are cruel kids out there who would think of something terrible to say.On the other hand, it is not a name you hear every day.
I really like this name because of Barack Obama, but that's the reason why it will cause teasing by people who rudely assume that Obama is a Muslim because his name sounds Arabic.
Why would it be rude to assume that someone is a Muslim? Seriously, think before you say something.
It sounds like "rock" with a long "bur" sound. Bur-rock. It sounds ugly and don't like the name at all no offense to the president-elect. Don't gush, please. It's not so great.
I don't really like this name. It has an ugly sort of sound to it.
Barack is a tremendous name simply by its association with the incoming president. It's one we're likely to see a lot more of, particularly if he proves to be a successful president.
No offense to those by this name, and especially to the President-elect, but I do not like this name and I especially don't like the mockery.
I actually really like it, it's different, and I like the look and sound.
