I don't know what Elle Macpherson was thinking. This name sounds snobbish and pretentious. I can picture the forms Aurel, Aurele, and Aurelio on regular people, but this form seems like it should only belong to an upper-class person. What kind of message are you sending to your son?
I think Aurelius is a very nice name and has a nice meaning. "Golden, gilded" sounds like a very noble or unique personality. If I ever have a son I might plan on naming him this or at least as a second name.

A nice, strong, masculine name. I like it now better than Alexander.

A shortname for Aurelius can be Elius! (Which makes me think of Elliot). Never cared how it sounds so much (never liked it that much because it sounded to me too much like URR-EH-LEE-US, too hard to pronounce), but it gives the impression of royalty, strength and praise.
