The name Athanasius and the word "euthanasia" are distantly related, but they have opposite meanings. Only the "thanatos" (death) element is the same. Euthanasia means "good death" (in the sense of "painless death") but Athanasius means "without death, undying", or "immortal".

Might this name's original bearer or its roots have anything to do with the verb "to euthanise" or simply "euthanasia", considering its lethal origins?I don't know. I enjoy the name regardless. Bit of a mouthful for a human name, and sort of a bad omen were one to name a child, but this also means it's fun to abbreviate. Into a character name, even.
